Late Mr. N. Kannayiram, a veteran medium fast bowler from Madurai was the first cricketer to play first class cricket representing the then madras team. He was also selected for Indian team that toured west indies in 1953. His first class career lasted for 10 years from 1947 – 1957. TNCA has recognized and felicitated his contributions to cricket by naming 4th A division league as N.Kannayiram

Mr. Margashayam Vekatramana

Mr. Margashayam Vekatramana

Mr. Margashayam Vekatramana, person who brought laurels to madurai district by playing test and one day cricket for India. A right arm off break bowler, Mr. Venkatramana's only Test was against West Indies in 1989 when he picked up the wicket of Desmond Haynes shortly before West Indies won the match. Besides West Indies, he also toured New Zealand in 1990. He gained national recognition following some brilliant performances around the domestic circuit. He was prominent in Tamil Nadu winning the Ranji Trophy in 1987-88, finishing with 35 wickets and also played a leading part in South Zone winning the Duleep Trophy in 1989-90. He took over 200 wickets in the Ranji Trophy. Mr. Venkatramana also played for a few years in English league cricket. Mr. Venkatramana, a level 3 coach had the following portfolios.

Mr. Janardhanan Ramdas, captained indian under-19 team that toured pakistan during 1988 – 1989, is a prominent allrounder in madurai’s cricketing achievement. He had also played for tamilnadu in ranji matches during 1989 – 1990.

Mr. Subramania Siva, a promising all-rounder, contributing to the game by bringing prosperties to madurai district. He did represent tamilnadu in national level twenty20 tournament held in indore. Presently he is leading Youngstars Cricket Club in Chennai a I division team that has many notable national level cricketers.

Madurai district senior cricket team reached three consecutive finals of S.S Rajan Trophy tournament conducted by Tamilnadu Cricket Association. Madurai district were winners during the year 2009 - 2010 & 2010 - 2011and runners in 2008 - 2009.
District
In the year 2007 – 2008 the district’s under 13 team reached finals of the Under – 13 tournament conducted by Tamilnadu District Cricket Association. The team was lead by Master . Atheek Fazal.

MDCA’s senior team reached the finals of S.S. Rajan Trophy tournament conducted by TNCA and lost to Tiruvallur District Cricket Association in the season 2008 – 2009. The match was played at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, world class ground in Chennai.

Madurai district’s Under – 14 team had good outing in the year 2009 – 2010 and reached the semifinals of the Tamilnadu Cricket Association’s tournament for identifying districts talents. The team lost to Coimbatore district but MDCA had identified lot many young and budding cricket talents.

Under – 22 team had better performance as good as the junior team in 2009 – 2010 season and reached semifinals of the TNCA tournament. It lost to Kancheepuram district one of the strongest team among the districts in semifinals.

MDCA senior team brought victory in the year 2009 - 2010 to the district by winning the S.S. Rajan Trophy that eluded last year. The team defeated Dindugul district and pocketed the trophy in final held at Madurai.

In 2010 – 2011 MDCA’s senior team proved invincible to all the districts by reaching the finals for third consecutive year and winning the trophy for record successive second time. The team beat Kancheepuram district at Chennai in the finals.
